The PUGs are made up of idiots now.

Actually, "now" is a bit of a misleading term; it implies there was a time when a PUG was for anything other than failure. Such a time has never existed.

So what did you PUG if I may ask? If you didn't PUG anything recently how do you know?

I am quite amazed how people who do not PUG have such extensive knowledge on them.

@OP Most PUGs are now in TOA for UW or FOW and in umbrals grotto for VS farm. There are still PUGs for some dungeons and some harder missions and often even for easier ones as well. You still have SS/LB farm pugs Usually for the missions they do not ask any special rank and do not ask for a special build however you have to have a decent build to get in into many. I Pugged some Cantha missions with my noSF sin recently and it all went well.

Perhaps he occasionally joins one, for the lulz. If I've had a few drinks and don't have anything planned, I'll occasionally join one, to be entertained by the ensuing hilarity. And sadly he is right, almost all of them still fail just as hard as they always have.

As for what they are made of...8 random players of anything they can get (often no monks, or hench monks).

If you join a PUG you are a part of it and its success is determined also by your skill and your gameplay as well. If you join in to make sure it fails you just make one more self-fulfilling prophecy. If you join in and try and lose because of some jerk/idiot/newbie/whatever I can see the reason for being frustrated. Sometimes I feel that half of the PUGS are not made of real idiots but of the people pretending to be one and having fun from annoying the others. I saw some posts like that here on guru already. Someone with classical frenzy/mending wammo having fun from the people in PUG he/she collapsed.

If you love the fresh smell of FAIL in the morning, join a PUG and you will see what they are made of

True enough. However, I can have all the skill in the world...it is not gonna mean very much if the rest of the group has absolutely no idea what they are doing AND refuses to follow instructions. This is ONE of the main reasons most of the PUGs I have joined, ultimately fail. Even though they do not know what to do, their pride does not allow them to follow someone who does know. Don't get me wrong, I do not join the groups with the intent on ruining it. Most of the time I wouldn't even HAVE to try to ruin it. It ruins itself. I just join them for entertainment and to pass time. I still do my thing...if I'm Ranger, I interrupt, if I'm Monk, I heal or prot. I don't sabotage the groups I am in...I am just entertained by them.

I have occasionally gotten into some very good random groups, too. But the keyword is "occasionally", as in...once in a blue moon. For the most part, as sad as it is...random PuGs ARE fail. :/ Time after time of frustration is not made up for by the very occasional decent group, imo.

PuG's only "fail" due to the expectation of "must win, no deaths, or else" that seems to predominate in the GW community imo. It's the overall philosophy of "Must complete goal as quickly as possible and perfectly" and the unrealistic expectations placed on new or casual players that seems to create much of the animosity towards PuG's, at least from what I have experienced.

There's little to no tolerance for new, inexperienced or just plain clueless players and any error is usually responded to with insults of "stupid noob!!" or some such insult followed by attempts at making players feel inferior or useless, often merely because they haven't done the mission ten thousand times like others have.

It's this reason that often makes me spend a few hours helping out on early game missions once a week.I enjoy the fact there is politeness and more of a philosophy to have fun.If you wipe it's not the end of the world and everyone is playing for the actual enjoyment of the game as opposed to just "getting it over with" as quickly as possible. It's a nice break from the overall mentality of high-end where GW is such seriously serious business.

It actually reminds me why I enjoyed GW and pugging in the first place.

In conclusion I think PuG's are only as "fail" as the expectations invidual players place on them.

Same crap as before, perhaps a few more hoarders and no lifers trying to keep up the apperence of a healthy game.

Actually, that is what made me first start to think that PUGs fail. I don't mind screw-ups, as long as you don't do them repeatedly. I mean, you can't always have a flawless run, and people have a life outside of GW. Seriously. If someone made a mistake because the cat was pestering him, or he had to go see to a kid or something, that's more than forgiveable, but some people act like it isn't. That's why I stopped PUGging - and I pugged a fair bit until some time into GWEN.

If you PUG, you do run the risk of meeting someone who is bad enough to make you frustrated, and I've gotten frustrated over that many times before. But it's the people who scream OMFGNOOB /ragequit the moment one thing goes wrong that annoy me the most. I'm not about to hop into a PUG just to hear someone scream abuse at the rest of the party.

Yeah, I do that too. I still do my job - no point collapsing a PUG, really. If it turns out to be miraculously good, everyone's happy. If they're frightfully bad, I get stories to tell my friends. Of course, I'm not intending to actually get anything done, so I'm not nearly as grouchy about it as I would otherwise have been.

Made of... less bad people these days, well for me anyways. Some are still horribaed, but I've had a ton of pleasant PUGs these days. Mostly been doing VS farming and some HA with friends (yes, I've had finally had idiot-less HA PUGs).
